Axio-Appendicular (Week 5) Flashcards
Bones of the Shoulder Girdle
Clavicle, Scapula, Manubrium, Sternum, Humerus
Joints of Shoulder Girdle
- Sternoclavicular (SC) joint: synovial
- Acromioclavicular (AC) joint: synovial
- Glenohumeral (GH) joint: synovial
Function of AC joint
prevent superior displacement of the humerus in the glenoid fossa (CA)
maintain relationship of clavicle to scapula in elevation of upper limb (AC & CC)
Ligaments of SC Joint
Sternoclavicular
Costoclavicular
Ligaments of AC Joint
Acromioclavicular
Coraco-acromial
Coracoclavicular
Trapezoid
Conoid
Trapezius Att.
P: superior nuchal line, occipital protuberance, nuchal
ligament, spinous process C7 – T12
D: spine of scapula, lateral 1/3 clavicle
Trapezius A/NS
Action: moves scapula
* Descending (Superior, Upper): elevation & upward
rotation
* Middle: retraction
* Ascending (Inferior, Lower): depression & upward
rotation
NS: Accessory nerve
Latissimus Dorsi Att.
P: spinous processes T6-12, thoracolumbar
fascia (TLF), inferior ribs, iliac crest
D: floor of intertubercular sulcus of humerus
Latissimus Dorsi A/NS
Action: ADD, EXT, IR of GHJ
* Directly moves arm on GHJ
* Indirectly moves scapula on STJ (Scapulothoracic)
NS: Thoracodorsal nerve
Levator Scapulae Att
P: transverse processes C1-4
D: superior angle, medial border, base
(root) of spine of scapula
Levator Scapulae A/NS
Action: elevate scapula, side flexion
of neck, control scapula in UL movements
NS: dorsal scapular nerve
Rhomboid Minor Att.
P: spinous processes C7-T1, nuchal ligament
D: medial border on the base of the spine of
scapula
Rhomboid Minor A/NS
Action: retract & rotate scapula; fix scapula
to thoracic wall
NS: Dorsal scapular nerve
Rhomboid Major Att.
P: spinous processes T2-5
D: medial border of scapula from spine of
scapula to inferior angle
Rhomboid Major A/NS
Action: retract & rotate scapula; fix scapula to
thoracic wall
NS: Dorsal scapular nerve
