What is CapEx?
Is there money is spend on a long term asset. Like hardware, laptop, servers, etc.
What is OpEx?
Where money is spent on an ongoing expense. Like power, internet, etc.
What is the downside of CapEx?
It is hard to predict how an asset such a service will be used, under or over capacity over the depreciation of the asset.
What is TOC?
It is too hard and soft costs, everything.
What is the ROI?
For a given input, it is the return on the input.
What are cost allocation tags used for?
You enable cost allocation tags in the master billing account and after enabling AWS applies the tags to the resources you create.
I have several teams in my orgnization, how can I track the resources used by each team and their projects?
You need to use the tagging of resources so resources can easily be easily identified.
I wnat to receive AWS account invoice by email, how can I do this>
In account management, you can opt to have invoice send by email in PDF format.
I wnat to receive billing reports once or more a day, how can I do this?
In account management, you have the option to enable the delivery of billing reports, these will be delivered once or more times a day.
[Seems legacy] I have a cost tagging in place on my resources, I am not seeing these tags appear in my billing reports pushed to S3, what do I need to do?
You need to add the tags you wnat to see in the report, this is an option on the console.
How can I get access to detailed billing reports for my account?
- ## Detailed Billing Reports [Legacy], this pushes the reports to S3, you can opt to include tags.
What is a budget used for?
It is used to set a cost, usage, reservation budget thet if what you use goes above you can get alerted by email, SNN, etc.
What type of budgets can you have?
- Cost
- Usage
- Reservation
- Saving plan
I wnat to have budget planing, how can I do this?
You can use budgets -> Cost and there is an option to have ‘Planing’ type budgets, planing type budgets are more complex in you set per month.
I wnat to set a budget and get an alert but I wnat to do have different thresholds for each month as my workload changes depending on the month, how cna I do this?
Under budgets -> Cost there is an option to use budget planning.
I wnat to get alerted when the cost of just my EC2 instances for ProjectX goes over $20 a month, how cna I do this?
Setup a budget -> Cost and set it to fixed at $20, now we have to filter, we filter on tags to just get projects and also on EC2.
When using budgets can I select the services I wnat to have budget alerted on?
Yes, in budgets you get to select one or more services.
When using budgets can I select the resources with tag X that I wnat to have budget alerted on?
Yes, this is an option, you can enter/select one or more tags.
I wnat to set budgets by region, how cna I do this?
In budgets, you select one or more regions.
When using budgets what notification can I get?
- SNS: From SNS you can push notifications anywhere.
Are budgets free?
First 2 are, then each budget is 0.02 per day or 0.60 pe-month.
What are budge reports?
You can create and send daily, weekly, or monthly reports to monitor the performance of your AWS Budgets.
