Autonomic Nervous System Flashcards
Diagram of the ANS?
page 118
Where is the nervous system in the ANS found?
everywhere
What are the 2 division in the ANS
sympathetic and parasympathetic
What is the main morphological characteristic of the ANS
two neurons
Diagram of the 2 neurons in the ANS?
page 119
What are some of the difference of the SNS
- adrenal medulla has no post-synaptic neutron
- preganglionic connects to postganglionic for all effectors except adrenal gland
- preganglionic to chromatin cell in adrenal gland (adrenal medulla)
- pre to post ganglionic neuron releases Ach
- postganglionic neuron to effector organ releases NE except adrenal gland
- NE acts at specialized receptors
Where does the PSNS begin?
sacral cord/ brain stem
Where does the SNS begin?
thoracic
Different SNS and PSNS functions?
diagram page 122
What are the complimentary effects shared by the PSNS and SNS?
saliva production and sexual organs
What are cooperative effects shared by the PSNS and the SNS?
sexual function and bladder control
What are some functions that only have sympathetic innervation?
blood vessels, sweat glands, adrenal medulla
What are the main characteristics of the PSNS?
- rest and digest
- high specificity
- both pre and post ganglionic neurons release Ach
What are the main characteristics of the SNS?
- fight or flight
- generalized activation
- pre neutron release Ach while post releases NE
