Autonomic Nervous System Flashcards
What nerves does autonomic information travel in from the superior and inferior salivatory nuclei?
Superior: VII
Inferior: IX
What are the possible ganglia containing 2’ autonomic neurons, on which 1’ neurons from the intermediolateral cell column synapse?
- paravertebral ganglia (sympathetic chain)
- prevertebral ganglia (celiac, superior mesenteric, etc)
- Adrenal medulla
What cranial nerve contains parasympathetic infromation from the nucleus ambiguus?
Vagus to heart
Where do baroreceptor and chemoreceptor neurons from the aorta and atria synapse in the brainstem?
-Nucleus tractus solitarius
Where does baroreceptor information in the nucleus tractus solitarius project to?
- Nucleus ambiguus –> Vagus –> heart muscle (inhibitory)
- Caudal ventrolateral medullary depressor area (CVLM) –>(inhibits) Rostral ventrolateral medullary pressory area (RVLM) –> Intermediolateral cell column –> Sympathetics to the vasculature and heart
Where does baroreceptor information in the nucleus tractus solitarius project to?
(increase blood pressure)-RVLM –> IML–> sympathetics to blood vessels and heart
(bradycardia) NTS–> NucAmb–>Vagus–> Heart muscle
(Increased respiration) NTS–>rVRG (rostral ventral respiratory group) –>phrenic motor nucleus (C3,4,5) –>increase activity of diaphragm
