Automatic Flight Flashcards
From left to right, what are the FMA mode annunciations?
Autothrottle
Roll
Pitch
-armed modes: small white letters bottom of FMA mode box
-engaged modes: large green letters top of FMA box
-mode change: green/amber box around affected mode for 10 seconds
-CWS: box will flash for 10 sec
How is independent F/D operation indicated on the MCP?
Illumination of both MA lights (above each F/D switch)
—TO mode engaged and below 400 ft RA
—APP mode with LOC and G/S captures
—GA mode engaged and below 400 ft RA
-each FCC controls modes for related FD
-when independent mode terminates , the MA light extinguishes on the slaved side
Except for when APP is engaged, what will selecting the non-operating A/P do?
Pushing the engage switch for the second A/P (not in APP mode) engages the second A/P and and disengages the first.
-FD MA follows to selected A/P side
-single A/P auto flare/touchdown, and A/P go-around not available
What does an amber CWS R or CWS P on the FMA mean?
when A/P is engaged through CMD switch, CWS will engage if a pitch and/or roll mode is:
-not selected, or
-deselected
*indicated in amber on FMA below appropriate FMA mode column
What causes the autopilot to disengage?
-pushing either yoke A/P disengage switch
-control column/wheel force override
—single or dual AP engagement
-pushing either TO/GA switch with single A/P engaged in CWS or CMD
—below 2000’ RA
—any altitude flaps extended or G/S engaged
—above 2000’ RA with flaps not up, or G/S engaged
-pushing either TO/GA switch after touchdown, both A/Ps engaged in CMD
-L/R IRS system failure or FAULT light
-loss of electrical power/sensor affecting A/P
-loss of respective hydraulic system pressure
—loss of A eng pump and heavy demand may cause A/P A to disengage
Plus a few more…
What does the STAB OUT OF TRIM (amber) light indicate?
Autopilot not trimming the stabilizer properly. Light on stab trim not operating.
2 bulbs. Left illuminated when FCC A driving stabilizer. Etc
-captains forward panel
What system normally provides N1 limit values for the auto throttle system?
Normal operation, FMC provides N1 for A/T
Which FMA annunciation indicates that power has been removed from the auto throttle servos?
THR HLD
-on takeoff at 84 kts to 800’
—then ARM
—then N1 at thrust reduction altitude
What mode will the A/T be in during a V/S descent?
MCP SPD
*N1 mode
—LVL CHG
—VNAV climb
*MCP SPD
—ALT ACQ
—ALT HOLD
—V/S
—G/S
*FMC SPD
—VNAV engaged for cruise/descent/approach
*RETARD
—drives A/T to idle then ARM mode
*GA
—1000 to 2000 fpm (TO/GA 1 press)
*N1 (go around)
—full N1 (TO/GA 2 press)
What pitch mode will the FMA Annunciate in LVL CHG?
MCP SPD pitch mode (climb or descent)
N1 or RETARD then ARM A/T mode (climb/descent)
The bank angle selector sets maximum bank angle for AFDS operation in which roll modes?
HDG SEL or VOR
*10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 degrees
What happens when deviating by 200 ft or more from target altitude?
Momentary tone
Current altitude box turns amber and flashes
Flashing continues until:
—deviation becomes less than 200 ft
—deviation becomes more than 900ft
—new altitude selected
After selecting TO/GA, what pitch attitude will the AFDS initially command on a two engine go-around? Single engine go-around?
15 degrees
13 degrees
On a go-around with the auto throttle armed, what will one push of the TO/GA switch command? Two pushes?
Reduced go-around N1, 1000-2000 fpm climb
Full go-around N1
