Autism & Vineland Flashcards
Autism Diagnostic Process
- Made using the criteria outlined in the DSM-V
-A diagnosis of ASD does not mean the student meets Educational Code under the category of Autism.
Differences: Ed Code vs. DSM-V
IDEA uses “Autism” while DSM uses “Autism Spectrum Disorder”
DSM present more detailed behavioral descriptions for each symptom
IDEA specifies that symptoms must adversely affect the child’s educational performance while DSM focuses on impairment in social, occupational, etc.
DSM requires specification of severity levels for two behavioral domains
