What is ASD?
A neuro developmental condition - changes how individuals perceive the world around them and how they interact with others
What are neurodevelopment disorders?
Occur when complex genetic and environmental factors interact to bring about changes in brain development
What do those with ASD show difficulties with?
Social interaction, communication, imaginative or role play, and repetitive patterns of behaviour or restricted interests.
What are two examples of difficulties with social communication and social interaction?
Deficitis in social emotional reciprocity
Difficulties developing, maintaining and understanding relationships
What are three examples of restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviour, interests or activities?
Stereotyped or repetitive motor movements, use of objects or speech
Insistence on sameness, inflexible adherence to routines and highly restricted, fixated interests.
