How to diagnose mild severity
Should have some difficulty making friends, may seem “odd” in their attempts and also have difficulty switching between activities, inflexibility of behavior makes it hard to make changes to routines
To diagnose medium severity
Interaction is limited to specific interests, short sentences, has odd nonverbal communication, experiences distress changing to next activity and these are noticeable to casual observers
To diagnose as severe
Only responds to direct social interactions, rarely initiates interaction, very limited speech, has great distress changing into next action or routine
