Q

Limitations of Traditional Approaches

A

• Lots of material on leadership being published, taught and discussed
• Most of this material focuses on how a particular person leads
– (e.g. Abraham Lincoln, Gandhi, Attila the Hun, Jack Welch, etc.)
– The author encourages the reader to model that mode of leadership… Which can be quite fake
• Other material focuses on traits or techniques – (e.g. Trait theory, Behavioral leadership theories)
• The outcome of such approaches is inauthentic leadership
– You can’t be authentic trying to imitate others
