Q

Telling someone “i’m retired”…

Ich habe vor* ungefähr 2.5 Jahre aufgehört

Tim Hibbs
Wie sagt man “I retired about 2.5 years ago” auf Deutsch? It seems “aufgehört” connotes something different than “ausgeschieden”. Ist das richtig?

Lara
Hi Tim, “ausgeschieden” is also okay, it’s just not that common for me. The best way to say it would be:
“Ich bin vor 2,5 Jahren in Rente gegangen.”

A

Tim Hibbs
Sind „Rente“ und „Ruhestand“ genau Synonyme?

Lara
“Rente” bezeichnet das Geld, das du bekommst und “Ruhestand” die Zeit.
Du sagst also: “Ich bekomme Rente”.
Aber du kannst sagen “Ich bin in Rente / im Ruhestand.” Hier geht also beides :)
