firstly with the diaphragm: mitral, tricuspid, pulmonary then aortic valve. then repeat with the bell of the stethoscope

A
auscultate the carotid arteries with the patient holding their breath

A
sit the patient forwards and auscultate over the aortic area during expiration

roll the patient onto their left side and listen over the mitral area w the bell during expiration

why do you auscultate the lung bases (cardio)
A
crackles suggest pulmonary oedema (secondary to left ventricular failure).
