What is the “Bottom Up Approach”?
moves from easiest to most difficult
what is meant by Detection Level?
Babies ability to detect the presence of sound or absence of ( ex. especially difficult for hearing loss)
Discrimination Level?
- Master discrimination of SUPRASEGMENTAL aspect of language
What is meant by SEGMENTAL LEVEL?
Phonemes, syllables, morphemes
What is meant by identification level?
child can label or name an item (ex. person says ball and child points to the ball)
What are the 3 things necessary for a child to accurately function at the identification level?
- Auditory Memory 2. Attention 3. Auditory Closure
what is auditory memory?
able to recall speech
What is meant by Attention?
focus on person speaking so as to understand what was said
What is Auditory Closure?
Able to fill in a missing or misspoken part of a word or message ( if child has an hearing impairment, noisey classroom is challenging)
What is the COMPREHENSION LEVEL?
comprehension of sound and it’s meaning= must be able to analyze, and process sound
