Auditory Complex Flashcards
Conductive hearing loss
Damage to peripheral parts of system
Types of Conductive Hearing Loss
Otosclerosis
Otis Externa
Otis Media
Otosclerosis
Tissue overgroqth causing fixation of stapes in oval window
Otis Externa
Infection of Auditory Canal (swimmers ear)
Otis Media
Infection of Middle Ear (Damage to Typanic Membrane)
Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Damage to Cochlear portion of cranial nerve 8 or cochlear nuclei
Webber Test Differences in Conductive vs Sensorineural
Conductive: Sound is louder on affected side
Sensorineural: Sound is louder on nonaffected side
Rinne Test Differences in Conductive vs Sensorineural
Conductive: Hears sound during bone conduction but not air conduction
Sensorineural: Air and bone conduction time rations remain same but duration will be reduced on effected side
What is Central Deafness
Secondary Damage of Central auditory pathway
- Alters perception of sound but no significant hearing loss
Causes: Auditory inattention, difficulties following conversaation, auditory hallucinations
How to compensate ofr Sensorineural Hearing loss?
Hearing aids
