CDA (construction demolition abatement )

STANDPIPE SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS :

A

NEW BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

TEMPORARY STANDPIPE (becomes permanent )

  • working deck reachers 75 FEET or greater (STANDPIPE BUILDING) a permanent or TEMPORARY standpipe system shall be kept in state if readiness at ALL TIMES .
  • serves all floors where PERMANENT stairs are required
  • Painted RED ( not considered ready until RED)
  • freezing conditions encountered (maintain as dry standpipe)

EXISTING BUILDING (FULL DEMOLITION)

EXISTING standpipes in structures undergoing demolition shall be maintained as a dry standpipe

  • *at the commencement of demolition, the standpipe risers shall be CAPPED ABOVE THE OUTLET ON THE FLOOR IMMEDIATELY BELOW THE FLOOR BEING DEMOLISHED SO AS TO MAINTAIN THE STANDPIPE SYSTEM ON ALL LOWER FLOORS FOR FD USE**
  • -cutting and capping done ONLY by licensed master plumber or licensed master FIRE SUPPRESSION PIPING CONTRACTOR
  • (hose/spanners /nozzles NOT required)
  • RED PAINT maintained and house check valves

NEW CONSTRUCTION (depth of 75 feet or greater BELOW GROUND LEVEL)-STANDPIPE REQUIRED BUILDING

  • -standpipe kept in readiness
  • shall serve ALL STORIES BELOW GRADE AND INSTALLED AS SOON AS TEMPORARY/PERMANENT STAIR INSTALLED BELOW GRADE
  • PAINTED RED

ALTERATION/PARTIAL DEMOLITION

  • standpipe maintained
  • in UNOCCUPIED building (wet system may be maintained as DRY –subject to approval of commissioner and commissioner of FIRE DEPT., and must have AIR PRESSURIZED alarm system)
  • painted red

note:

  • if alteration results in NEW stories of a structure 75 feet or greater , this applies
  • if alteration work results in greater than 75 feet below depth, this applies

  • in STEEL , working deck is the floor where the metal decking and steel components are being placed before concrete is poured

*if travel hoist cannot be increased due to inclement weather, it shall be increased by end of next working day.

  • Furniture within 5 feet from fire pit shall have FLAME RETARDANT COATING, additional fire loads shall not be permitted

FIRE ALARM-work/repair will required fire alarm system to be OOS for more than 8 hours in 24 hour period

-one or more other fire protection systems in the area win which a sprinkler of fire alarm system is out of service are or will be out of service at the same time.

-upon notification of OOS fire protection system, IMMEDIATELY INVESTIGATE WITH MEMBERS
EXCEPTION: shut down for scheduled inspection, testing, maintenance AND SYSTEM WILL BE PLACED BACK IN SERVICE PRIOR TO THE END OF BUSINESS DAY (investigation is not necessary )…but inform owner/impairment coordinator to follow FIRE CODE in regards to planned removal of service..LASTLY , department should be NOTIFIED UPON RESTORATION

-NOTE: case of PLANNED removal of service (END OF BUSINESS DAY) OFFICER should advise surrounding units , ADMIN DIVISION, BATTALION
