AUC 4/Community engagement and public education programs

Question 1

Company Commanders will utilize prescribed lesson plans, developed by the FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION UNIT in visits to the firehouse by the public

Visits to firehouse are NOT to be schedule during :

• BISP periods
• hydrant inspections
• scheduled training
• or any other period designated by Chief of Operations

ALL FIRE SAFETY EDUCATIONS PROGRAMS ARE EXEMPT FROM 10-51, except OPERATION SIDEWAlk or ordered by CHIEF of ops.

-units placed OOS, will be out of service for 1.5 hours, some longer , some shorter

Upon notification by the bureau of ops of an event, DIVISIONS will select units and the time they will attend (bluff: battalions )

-units selected shall not be schedule for BISP, HYDRANT, PMP, etc.

-only 1 FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION FUNCTION PER TOUR

Question 3

Upon receiving request for FIREHOUSE VISIT to quarters, OFFICER ON DUTY will schedule the event on a day that the unit is NOT SCHEDULED FOR BISP/HYDRANTS OR PMP, ETC. and will NOTE EVENT in day book and enter info into FSE tracking system and also EMAIL SCHEDULING UNIT

-when receiving request for a FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION other than visit to quarters , OFFICER ON DUTY shall have REQUESTER (bluff: officer ) contact FSE unit via email or phone .

at a FIRE SAFETY EVENT at which Fire Safety Education unit coordinator is present, the company officer will by guided by the coordinator, if no coordinator is present, OFFICER will be in charged of field units participation.

UPON COMPLETION OF EVENT, CLOSE OUT ON FSE TRACKING SYSTEM

-INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS who voluntarily conduct FSE presentations may request guidance from the FSE by email or phone at least 2 weeks prior .. they can receive lesson plans, visual aides , literature for distribution

- units MUST request FSE literature via phone/fax

OPEN HOUSE:

• 2 HOUR PERIOD /open to public
• remain in service
• ONE OFFICR AND ONE FF assigned from the DIVISION
• FSE will provide literature
• at conclusion of event, close out on FSE TRACKING SYSTEM

OPERATION SIDEWALK ..

• block parties/street fairs/ parade, other.
• nearest ENGINE OR LADDER is assigned to the activity for a period of ONE HOUR
• remain in service and respond at DISCRETION OF DISPATCHER
• unit will respond to 10-75 or greater
• ladder racing or mask donning demo can be used
• when children involved, highlight dangers of hydrant abuse, false alarms, playing with matches
• upon receiving request for oPERATION SIDEWALK, OFFICER WILL HAVE REQUESTER contact FSE by email or phone
• FSE will send coordinator when appropriate, if not , OFFICER will coordinate activity
• no more than 1 per tour
• cancelled upon 10-51/OFFICER will notify sponsoring organization and FSE (bluff: FSE make notifications )
