SAR FORMS CARRIED ON APPARATUS ..
-members must be clear and specific when writing SAR form
Imminent threats…
- request assistance as needed and make immediate notifications to next level of command
- NOTIFY NYPD and BFI forthwith
- in these cases SAR is SECONDARY, but should be competed when possible
Clandestine labs..
- look similar , regardless of product being made
- FDNY members are not qualified to differentiate between drug, chemical , biological labs
When a member suspects or discovers clandestine lab..
- -immediately STOP , DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING, RETRACE THEIR STEPS and BACK OUT OF AREA.
- -DO NOT attempt to determine type of lab prior to leaving
- clothing /equipment may be contaminated, consult with HAZMAT AND BFI/NYPD TO VERIFY
Notifications: BC DC REQUEST HAZ MAT RESPONSE NYPD (including bomb squad when necessary ) BFI
IF a member witnesses an act which is by itself criminal…immediately notify?
NYPD
IF a member suspects an individual is engaging in TERRORIST ACTIVITY?
DO NOT CONFRONT
IF a member witnesses an act of terrorism (bomb , shooting, etc.)
implement SOP (call for resources, radio code, etc) --notify NYPD and BFI, as soon as possible
if a member is unsure of conditions..
remain on scene and REQUEST BC
upon discovery of suspicious activity during routine assignments, BI or emergency responses..
use SAR FORM
-if a member discovers any of listed indicators, REPORT IMMEDIATELY UPON RETURN TO QUARTERS VIA DIAMOND PLATE reporting system
Diamond Plate reporing system:
upon submission, this will generate PDF and will be emailed directly to FDOC (member reporting will receive phone call from officer at FDOC)
SEND original SAR FORM through the bag to BFI , as well as call BFI
INFORMATION regarding suspicions should not be transmitted over the DEPT. RADIO..
UNLESS: immediate threat to member safety
RECORD keeping:
- do not keep original SAR form at quarters
- all submitted SAR FORMS forward to BFI
- MAKE JOURNAL ENTRIES, but give no particulars
- do not share experience on social media pertaining to SAR
