Attributuion Flashcards
EQ. In relation to Weiner’s model of attribution explain the term ‘locus of control’ (2 marks)
- considers the extent to which the event is under control
- controllable attributions are under the control of the performer
- uncontrollable attributions are under know ones controls
EQ. Performers use attributions to explain reasons for success and failure in sport. Discuss the impact of an individual’s attributions following a failure in sport. (6 marks)
- if failure is attributed to internal factors like ability then motivation will increase
- but confidence will decrease
- if failure is sttributed to external factors like luck then confidence will not be lost
- but you will not improve
- if failure is attributed to stable factors like ability then failure is expected to be repeated
- if failure is attributed to unstable factors like luck or weather then performer would believe outcome can be changed
EQ. Use a practical example from sport to show an internal, stable attribution for failure. (1 mark)
a football player not having the natural ability to make the first team
