Attributions Flashcards
Cognitive process of attribute
- Observation of outward acts of behavior
- conscious determination/acknowledgement of behavior
- Attribute causes to this observed behaviour
Affect of attribution on future action
- signification impact on future behavior towards external and/or internal factors (depends on internal or external attribution)
- attribution style is opposite learned helplessness ( continually attribute failures to stable/unchanging internal ability ((also can be because of external factors)) )
Criteria for attribute
1.evaluation of something, negative, natural or positive.
2. Settled and stable - consistent and long lasting opinion
3. Learned through experience - reason for attribution
- media, newspaper, tv, social media, advertisements, etc.
- personal experience
- interactions with others (eminent circle)
Attribution definition
Evaluation a person makes about an object, group, event or issue - cause of behavior and process of the evaluation
Factors
-possitive, negitive or nutural
- long lasting
- learned through experience and socio-cultural factors
- can change or remain stable over time
Abc of attitude ( attitude formal ) (tri-component model) there are a lot of names for this one
Tri-component model
AFFECTIVE COMPONENT
- emotional reactions
-positive, negative, natural response
- emotive language (love, hate, don’t care)
ATTITUDE (cognitive) COMPONENT
-beliefs (acceptance of truth reality or validity of something)
-linked to what we know - developed as a result of experience
BEHAVIORAL COMPONENT
-action (observable behavior, usually related to a goal or achievement)
-strong correlation between how we behave and what you belief
- expressive
Personal attribution
Internal factors (personality, attitude, etc.), tend to blame the person for causing behavior ( person in a bad mood - its their fault)
PERSONAL JUDGEMENT POSSIBLE REASONS
-psych state, age, gender, intellect
Situational attribution
External factors, tend to blame the situation for causing behavior (missing the bus because it was early - they took too much time)
SITUATIONAL JUDGEMENT REASONS
-environmental
Limitations to tri-component model
Persons attitude and behaviour do not always align consistently, behavior does not always reflect attitude held (cognitive dissonance)
