An emotional response that influences behaviour and brings about an individuals typical actions towards an attitude object
Positive and negative attitude

A lifetime but are unstable and can be changed

What are the three components of attitude- Triadic model
Cognitive component
Affective component
Behavioural component
What is the cognitive component of Triadic model
Belief or knowledge a person has about the attitude object
What is the affective component of the Triadic model
Emotional aspect
Whether attitude object gives a good feeling
Enjoyment produces positive value emotional aspects
What is the behavioural aspect of the Triadic model
Response or behaviour towards object
If first two components are positive then response to attitude would be positive
What are the two methods of attitude change
Cognitive dissonance and persuasive communication
Persuasive communication theory
- the persuader, person must have high status eg coach
- The recipient , attitude easily change if recipient wants to change and understands why
- The message, message presented in way that makes player want to change
- Situation, attitude changed easier if other persuaders present such as team mates
What is cognitive dissonance
Attitude can be changed by changing one component of Triadic model
This change causes unsettlement, psychological discord
This conflict is cognitive dissonance, helps change negative attitude as person is motivated to restore balance in components
What is motivation to restore harmony called (cognitive dissonance)
