attention Flashcards
attention definition
focusing on certain aspects of environment
arousal definition
wakefulness and sleepiness. global level of paying attention to the world
consciousness definition
thinking about thinking.
effort
with effort comes a shift in attention. close relationship btwn attention and effort
2 arguments as to why we have attention
- lots coming in and bottle necking before the processing can all be done
- lots coming in and bottle necking after the processing
what is perceptual load
total pool that can be divided in variety of ways.
attention vs motor behaviour
attention improves performance
what are the orgins of attentional shifts
overt and covert
what is overt attention shift
eye movements track to where we are attendin in the world
what is covert attention shift
shift in attention but havent shifted eye movement. paying attention to diff aspects but maintaining visual focus
what is endogenous attention
you decide to consciously shift attention and move your eyes
exogenous attention
when a salient stimuli happens in the environment (think flashing lights)
voluntary attention
same as endogenous. deciding to shift your attention
reflexive attention
same as exogenous. having your attention shift due to an outside stimulus
top down attention
driven by internal environment
