what is attention in a basic way
some neurons might be more sensitive to some things, like if there is smth specific in the environment that youre looking for
consequences of attention at a small scale
intracellular reporting. at low levels of stimulation there is increase of overall base level of firing, neurons become less sensitive for things that are irelevant to the stimuli, and as a person attends to a specific stimuli some neurons will change their prefrence.
synchrony in attention
GABA will sometimes take unsynchronized neurons and sync them so that they fire on the same neuron at the same time
the pulvinar
thalamus and pulvinar nucleus. connects visual cortex with other areas.
frontal eye fields
top down guidance of movement. can cause shifts in attention even if eye movements do not occur.
