Medicine taken BEFORE exposure to reduce risk of infection.
What drug is given in HIV PreP?
Truvada – TDF/FTC.
How can the dosing of Truvada be?
Daily or event based
What effect has HIV PreP been shown to have on HIV incidence?
Reduces HIV incidence by 86%.
Who is HIV PreP given to?
High risk patients
What is PEPSE?
Medicine taken AFTER exposure to reduce risk of infection.
What is the PEPSE procedure for Hep B?
- HBV vaccine – up to 7 days.
* Immunoglobulin – for vaccine non-responders.
What is the PEPSE procedure for HIV exposure?
- 3 antiretrovirals.
- Start within 72 hours.
- 28 days total.
How effective is PEPSE?
Probs about 80%.
What is rape defined as?
Penetration of the vagina, anus or mouth by the penis without consent.
When is consent invalidated?
- If incapacitated by alcohol or drugs.
- If incarcerated.
- If violence or threat of violence.
