Interactional synchrony
how a parents speech and behaviour become in tune with the infants to which they become in direct response to one another.
Reciprocity
both parent and infant responding to each others actions or behaviours, e.g. smile in infant triggers smile on caregiver or vice versa.
The role of the father
the part the father plays in an infants childhood and how this may or may not affect the child if they have a father or not.
Secondary attachment
bond between two strangers that eventually deepens to become a primary attachment.
Longitudinal study
Research design that involves repeated observations of the same variables over a long period of time.
Asocial Stage
Stage from 0-6 weeks where infant may respond to faces or voices but an attachment has not been.
Indiscriminate attachment
Infants aged 2-7 months can discriminate between familiar and unfamiliar people but does not show stranger anxiety.
specific attachment
Infants aged 7 months tend to show a strong attachment to one particular person and are wary of strangers.
Multiple attachment.
Multiple attachments are attachments to two or more people. Research has shown that most babies are able to form multiple attachments once they have formed a specific attachment to their main caregiver.
separation anxiety
the reaction/behaviour of a child when the primary caregiver is no longer with them.
Stranger anxiety.
a form of distress that children experience when exposed to strangers. … Stranger anxiety is a typical part of the developmental sequence that most children experience. It can occur even if the child is with a caregiver or another person they trust.
