What is reciprocity ?
Mutual responsiveness between mother and infant through signals
What is interactional synchrony ?
When mother and infant carry out the same action simultaneously mirroring eachother

What is the still face experiment ?
- mothers enjoying dialogue with babies would stop moving and remain static, unsmiling to test the babies reaction
Results of the still face experiment ?
Babies try and temp mother into interaction by smiling and would become distressed if they didn’t receive a response
What is Bowlbys monotropic theory ?
Suggestion that attachment is result of evolutionary behaviours
What is Bowlbys theory of maternal deprivation ?
Suggestion that constant separation from child and primary caregiver results in permanent difficulties for child
What is the critical period ?
The period of time where if a child doesn’t form an attachment they never will in the future
What are the attachment types?
- insecure avoidant
-insecure resistant - secure

What is the insecure avoidant attachment type? (Type A) for infants
Low anxiety in the presence of strangers and upon reunion with caregiver they show no joy or need for comfort
What is the insecure resistant attachment type ? Type B
Extreme anxiety in the presence of strangers and will resist comfort from caregiver upon reunion
