ATP 2-01.3 Flashcards
What is IPB
The systematic process of analyzing the mission variable of mETTC in an area of interest to determine their effects on operations
What are the Four Steps of IPB
Define the OE
Determine the environmental effects on operations
Evaluate the Threat
Determine the Threat Courses of Action
What is an Operational Environment
A composite of the conditions, circumstances, and influences that affect the employment of capabilities and bear on the decisions of the commander
What is an HVT
A target the enemy requires for the completion of his mission
What is an HPT
A target whose loss to the enemy would significantly contribute to the success of the friendly course of action
What is an NAI
A geospatial area or systems node against which information that will satisfy a specific information requirement can be found
What is a TAI
The geographic area where HVTs can be engaged by friendly orces
What are the steps of MDMP
Receive the Mission
Mission Analysis
COA Development
COA Analysis
COA Comparison
COA Approval
Orders production, dissemination, and transition
What is an AO
An operational area defined by a. CDR for land and maritime forces that should be large enough to accomplish their mission and protect their forces
What is an area of influence
an area of concern for the commander, including area of influence, adjacent to, and extending into enemy territory
What is an area of influence
Area wherein a commander is directly capable of influencing operations by manuever or fire support systems normally under their command
What products come out of step 2 of IPB
Threat overlay and threat template and MCOO
What is key terrain
an identifiable characteristic whose seizure would provide a marked advantage to either combatant
What is ASCOPE
Areas, structures, capabilities, organizations, people, and events
What is a threat
any combination of actors, entities, or forces that have the capability and intent to harm the US
What is composition
Identification and organization of a threat
What is disposition
how threat forces are arrayed
What is a threat model
how threat forces normally conduct operations and how they have reacted to similar, past situations
What are the three outputs of the threat model
Convert to graphics
Describe preferred tactics
Identify HVTs
What is the threat template
How to graphically portray how the threat might use its capabilities to perform the functions required to accomplish its mission when not constrained by the OE
IPB Step 3 has what three products
Threat Temp
HVT list
Threat capability statement
What are the outputs of IPB step 4
SITEMP
Threat COA statement
Event Temp
Event Matrix
What is a SITEMP
Depiction of assumed dispositions, based on preferred courses of action and impact of the operational environment
What are information requirements
items of information regarding the adversary and other relevant aspects of the operational environment that needs to be collected and processed in order to meet the intelligence requirements of the commander
What is an indicator
An item of information that reflects intention or capability of an adversary to adopt or reject a course of action
What is an event template
a guide for collection planning that depicts NAIs where activity or lack of activity, will indicate a course of action for the adversary
What are the three items of an event template
Decision points
Time phase lines
NAIs
What is an event matrix
Cross referenced description of the indicators and activity expected to occur in each NAI
