In an equation, is the mass of the reactants the same as the mass of the products?
Yes - no new atoms are created or destroyed in a chemical equation
How to balance equations?
There has to be the same number of each type of atom in each side of the equation
What is the Law of Conservation of mass?
The total mass of the products formed in a reaction is equal to the total mass of the reactants
How can the Law of Conservation of mass be broken?
If the reactions are carried out in open containers such as test tubes as heating an element can increase or decrease the mass of the products for example carbon makes it react with oxygen making carbon dioxide which floats away decreasing the mass
Why are state symbols added and what are the state symbols?
State symbols give more information about the reaction for example liquid (l), solid (s), aqueous solution (aq)
