Q

On the periodic table every element has an atomic number + mass number. If helium has a mass number of 4 and atomic number of 2 calculate the numbers of protons, neutrons + electrons.

A

Atomic number = 2
Number of protons= 2
Number of electrons = 2
Number of neutrons= 2

Q

How do you find the electronic structure of an element?

A

Start at the first shell. The number of markings on it is the first number of the answer.
second number of answer comes from second shell and so on.

It doesn’t matter if it only has e.g 1-2 outside bands. Fill each one up to its max if you can. E.g if there is 5 electrons you only need 2 bands- the first one with 2 and the second with 3.
Short hand =
e.g Sulfur- 2,8,6
