ATOMIC HABITS Flashcards
What is a habit?
An automated behavior
Decisive moment relative to habits
Small choices that change the course of the day
How to explain / best example of systems vs results?
Focus on the process not the results. Losing weight for an example. You don’t focus on the number on the scale. You focus on the events that lead to that number
Smoker example in regards to consistency
I am trying to quit smoking vs I am not a smoker. Consistency bias
What are the four stages of a habit?
cue-craving-response-reward
what is a cue and how to make it efficient
The initial trigger - make it easy/obvious
implementation formula
I will do X habit at Y location at Z time
Habit stacking
I will do x habit after y habit
Cue - environment vs will power
Habit is much more important - easier to avoid eating a browning thats not there than to avoid eating it while using pure will power
what is a craving and how to make it efficient
Makes you want to do something - make it attractive
temptation bundling
I will do habit x i don’t want to do while do habit y I do want to do
response and how to make it efficient
what you actually do - make it easy
Reward
what do you want to actually get? Make it satisfying
How to break habits?
Inverse rules
