Atmospheric hazards Flashcards
cells of the global atmospheric
0-30 degrees Hadley cell
30-60 degrees Ferrel cells
60- poles Polar Cells
It occurs due to differential heating and earth’s curvature
Albedo
reflectiveness of the earths surface
polar cell
Colder denser sinks (high pressure at higher latitudes and moves to lower latitudes. As it moves closer to the closer to equator it heats up the air and hence the air rises causing low pressure at the polar front
Ferrel cell
between the hadley and polar cell. Cooler air from ples meets the the equator hence heating up and rising (low pressure) (uk is in a ferrel cell)
Hadley cell
largest cell its high pressure and is home to most of the world’s desserts and rainforests.
Intense heating at the equator (from the earth’s bulge)causes the air to rise to high altitudes and moves towards the pole
Coriolis effect
The Equator spins faster than the latitudes north and south of it causing in case of hurricanes one side to move a a faster rate causing the spin
