Acetaminophen
A
- Analgesic
- Antipyretic
Precautions/Interventions:
- Alcohol
- Concurrent use with TB meds, and barbiturates, warfarin
Side/Adverse Effects:
- N/V
- Long term therapy: anemia, leukopenia, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia
Nursing Interventions and Client Education
- Monitor liver and kidney function
- Don’t exceed a single dose of 325mg (4000mg/24hr)
Treat overdose with acetylcysteine

Opioid Analgesics
A
- Fentanyl
- Hydromorphone
- Morphine sulfate
- Meperidine
- Codeine
Therapeutic use:
- Relief of moderate to severe pain
- Sedation
Precautions/Interactions:
- biliary tract surgery
- kidney failure
- monitor for potentiate effects when given with : benzo, pheno, hypnotics, and sedatives
Side/Adverse Effects:
- Orthostatic hypotension
- constipation/ urinary retention
- blurred vision
- respiratory depression
Nursing Interventions and Client Education:
- Monitor vitals, respiratory depression
- Administer Narcan for respiratory depression
