Q

How does adrenaline stimulate relaxation?

A
Stimulates beta-1-arenoceptors
Adenylyl cyclase (convert cAMP to ATP)
cAMP increases protein kinase A - increase contractile protein sensitivity to calcium + phosphorylation of phospholamban
Increase pumping of Ca into SR
Increase rate of relaxation

Q

Why and how is adrenaline given in acute cardiac arrest?

A

IV due to positive info/chronotropic actions (b1), redistribution of blood (a1) to the heart and dilation of coronary arteries (b2 on smooth muscle)
