Astronomy Flashcards
What is gravitational field strength?
It is how strongly something pulls on an object
Why is the Earth’s gravitational field strength is greater than the moons ?
This is because there is a difference in mass, the Earth has more mass than the moon and so has a bigger gravitational field strength
What is an orbit ?
A path which an object takes when it is within the field of another objects gravitational force
What do moons orbit ?
Planets
What do planets orbit ?
Suns
What do comets orbit ?
Suns
What is the equation for orbital speed ?
Orbital 2 x pie x orbital radius
Speed = ———————–
Time period
What do satellites orbit ?
A planet
Examples of satellites
- moons
