Astronamy Flashcards
What are all of the planets in the solarsystem?
Mercury, venus, earth, mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
What are the four planets closest to the sun called?
Inner planets/Terrestrial planets
What are the four planets farthest from the sun called?
Outer planets/Gas giants
What is a celestial sphere
an imaginary sphere around the earth used for navigation and astronamy
What is a light year?
300 000 km per second
What is the unit of measurment from the earth to the sun
An atronomical unit (AU) 150 000 000 km
What takes place inside the sun that causes energy?
A nuclear fusion with two molecules of helium fuse and create energy.
What is the Canadarm2
A robotic arm that takes and releases stalites at the international space station
what is Dextre
An attachment to the canadarm2 that can complete tasks and use tools
How is mars’s atmophere different to earths?
Mars’s atmosphere is mostly carbon dioxide and nitrogen and earths is mostly oxygen and nitrogen
What is the Phionex mars mission?
The first mission to explore the Arctic region of Mars and confirmed that it snows there
What were the other rovers that went to mars called?
Sojourner, Pathfinder, spirit an oppertunity, curiosity (Used to see if there were livable enviorments), Percerverance (2020)
What star do all the others look like they rotate around?
Polaris / North star
What constellation is Polaris in?
The little dipper (Uras minor)
What are the stars that circle Polaris called?
Circumpolar
What is a gravitationl pull?
The force of attraction that keeps the other planets in a circular pattern. Its called an orbit.
What is the difference between revolve and rotate?
Rotate is when a singular object is turning around and revolve is when the turning object is also orbiting a different object.
What is a star?
A star is a ball shaped mass of superheated gases
Where is oiur solar system navigated?
The milky way galaxy
How was the moon created?
When the earth got hit by an astroide the size of mars.
What are the layers of the moon?
Core, mantel, surface
What makes the moon shine?
It is the reflection of the sun
What are the waxing phases?
The moon is gaining light
What is a waning moon?
The moon is losing light.
What is a solar eclipse?
When the moon moves directly between the sun and earth.
What is a lunar eclipse?
When the earth was directly between the sun and moon
What was Apollo 11?
Apollo 11 was the first two people to land on the moon.
what is astronamy?
The study of celestial objects
What are the features of terrestrial planets?
Rocky surfaces
Much smaller than other planets
Orbits cause them to be closer to the sun and other planets
Very few moons
What are the features of gaz giants?
No solid surface very large Orbits keep them farther away Rings surround them They have many moons
What is the goldielocks zone
The perfect area for life
What is a solar wind?
A stream of charged particles emitted from the sun
Whats protecting earth from the solar wind?
The magnetosphere
What causes aurora borealis?
The chemical reaction between solar winds and the magnetosphere
What does the atmosphere protaect us from?
UV rays. (Also traps heat)
What are three factore that make life possible?
Earths position in space
Earths magnetic feild
Earths atmosphere
