Mechanism
A
- Smooth muscle walls of bronchial tubes contract => narrower airways
- Swollen and inflamed lining of airways
- Increased mucus production
- Release of excessive immune cells into blood vessels
=> Result in extremely narrow and restricted airways, preventing patient from being able to inhale and exhale properly => gases unable to pass through respiratory membranes => abnormal O2 and CO2 levels in lungs =
