Q

VMI: purpose, type, procedures, age range, length of administration

A

purpose: to measure visual-motor integration in children and adults
type: standardized, norm-referenced
procedures: performance-based in three domains -
(1) Visual-Motor Integration - examinee copies drawings of 24 geometric shapes, arranged in a developmental sequence (from less → more complex)
(2) Visual Perception - examinee IDs each shape’s identical match from a set of similar shapes.
(3) Motor Coordination - examinee traces shapes that get progressively more difficult (assessing fine motor skills)

age range: long form 2 - 100; short form 2-7

length of administration: 10-15 mins

Q

Clinical Observations of Motor and Postural Skills (COMPS): purpose, type, procedures, age, time

A

purpose: standardization of traditional clinical observations used as screening tool to ID motor problems with a postural component
type: standardized
procedures: examiner describes and demonstrates six items for client to perform:

  • slow movements
  • rapid forearm rotation
  • finger-nose touching
  • prone extension posture
  • ATNR
  • supine flexion posture

age: 5-15
time: 15-20 minutes

Q

QNST3 (Quick Neurological Screening Test)

A

Purpose: to detect neurological soft signs (NSS) of possible clinical importance, based on motor coordination / sensory integration abilities

Type: standardized

Procedures: client perform 15 tasks related to: motor maturity / development, sensory processing, gross/fine muscle control, sense of rate and rhythm, spatial organization, visual/auditory perception, balance/vestibular functions, disorders of attention.

Subtest scores are tabulated for a single score.

Age range: 4 - 80+

Length of administration: 20 minutes

Q

Pediatric Interest Profile

A

Purpose: to develop client rapport and learn what interests and motivates client

Type: non-standardized

General test procedures: examinee asks child about interests: do you do this activity? do you like it? who do you do it with?

Age range: childhood (?)

Length of administration: variable; continue until enough information is gained to be of use, of until child loses interest and stops responding

Q

Sensory Profile 2

A

Purpose: to measure sensory processing patterns that support or interfere with function

Type: standardized

General test procedures: caregiver responds to questionnaire, reporting how child responds to various situations/events. Uses Likert scale (from “almost never” to “almost always”)

Age range: 0-14

Length of administration: 5-10 minutes

A

Purpose of test: Comprehensive measure of gross and fine motor skill

General test procedures: Includes 8 subtests (FM precision, FM integration, manual dexterity, upper limb coordination, bilateral coordination, balance, running speed and agility, strength)

Age range: 4-21

Length of administration:

  • Full: 40-60 min

Q

SIPT - Sensory Integration and Praxis Test

A

Purpose of test: Considered the most comprehensive and statistically sound method for measuring sensory integration and praxis.

General test procedures: 17 subtests in four main categories (motor-free visual perception, somatosensory, praxis, sensorimotor). Need extensive training to administer

Age range: 4 years – 8 years 11 mo

Q

SPM - Sensory Processing Measure

A

Purpose of test: Using 3 integrated rating scales, the SPM measures sensory processing, praxis, and social participation

General test procedures: Test scores social participation, vision, hearing, touch, taste and smell, body awareness, balance and motion, and planning and ideas.

Age range: 5-12

Length of administration: 15-20 min

Sensory Profile

A

Purpose of test: Measures behavioral responses to everyday sensory experiences and provides info regarding the sensory processing of an individual

General test procedures: 60 question, self-report questionnaire, quadrant scores for 4 domains: low registration, sensation seeking, sensory sensitivity, and sensation avoiding.

Age range: (there are forms for ages 0 - 14)

Q

ETCH - Evaluation Tool of Children’s Handwriting

A

Purpose of test:

  • evaluates manuscript and cursive handwriting skills
  • assesses handwriting speed and legibility in writing tasks similar to those required of classroom students.

General test procedures: student writes out alphabet (uppercase and lowercase) and the numbers 1-0 (also seen: near-point copying, far-point copying, dictation, sentence composition). Therapist scores according to manual.

How to hypothesize about child after an assessment:

A

(child) was referred due to (problem that led to referral). Test scores show normal (whatever is normal) but delays in (whatever is delayed, include percentile) and (whatever else is delayed, include percentile). This suggests that …. (state what is suggested).
