A pneumonia developing as a result of foreign materials gaining entry to the bronchial tree, usually food or saliva.

A
Incompetent swallowing mechanism: stroke, MS, intoxication.
Iatrogenic causes: intubation
Poor dental hygiene
Prolonged hospitalization or surgical procedures
Impaired consciousness
Impaired mucociliary clearance
