Main principles behind Trait perspective
- performer is born with their personality - innate
- characteristics are shown in all situations so it it possible to measure behaviour
According to trait perspective, what happens if someone is extroverted
they are outgoing in both sporting situations and outside of sporting situations
According to trait perspective, what happens if someone is introverted
they are reserved both on and off the field of play
Limitations of trait perspective
- does not consider effects of environment on performer
- doesn’t recognise performers may consciously decide to structure their own personality
Main principles behind Social learning perspective
- personality is not innate it is learned
- personality changes according to the situation so behaviour cannot be predicted
How does socialisation play apart in social learning
- if behaviour is praised or successful it is highly likely that you will imitate/repeat it.
What are the principles behind the interactionist approach
- personality is made up of traits and environmental experiences
- both Trait and social approach are relevant so combined them.
