Asepsis and sepsis Flashcards
Homeostasis
The body’s ability to remain consistent and stable all the time. They stay in a normal range
BP decrease
there is a loss of blood, which means less pressure is exerted on the walls of the arteries
Heart rate increase
The heart is pumping harder in order for more blood to circulate the blood
Respirations increase
More oxygen is required in the body for the red blood cells (heart rate increases)
Oxygen Saturation Levels decrease
breathing is not as strong, less blood, and they carry oxygen, all the blood travels towards the core and it is measured in your fingers or toe
temperature can indicate…
infection is present if high
Side effects of high fever
the brain becomes fried and you can get a seizure
Sepsis
Sepsis is a serious condition that happens when the body’s immune system has an extreme response to an infection (aka blood poisoning)
septicemia
bacterial infections in the blood
How does septicemia lead to sepsis
1.Poisons are released by the bacteria involved in septicemia
2.The immune systems creates an inflammatory response to these poisons which is referred to as sepsis
3.Blood pressure drops which can lead to heart and respiratory failure
Sepsis leads…
Sepsis leads to septic shock which can cause death
