What is the definition of ASE?
Non-Airborne mechanical and electrical equipment for maintenance and operational support
What are the categories of ASE?
- Category 1: Formerly known as minor GSE
- Category 2: Formerly known as major GSE
- Category 3
What is category 1 of ASE?
- No scheduled preventative maintenance
- Maintained by the user/inventory holder
What are the types of category 2 of ASE?
- Major (Supported through its life by the AC team or project team
- Lift (Any equipment that lifts and suspends a load
- Arrest (Aircraft arrestor systems
- WaHPPE (Working at heights personal protective equipment (JSP 569))
- TME (Test and Measuring equipment
- TWE (Temporary working environment
What is category 3 of ASE?
The range of road going equipment, vehicle with a registration plate
What is CLS?
Contractor Logistic Support - Equipment that’s brought into service under a contract maintenance agreement
What is IOS?
Integrated Operational Support - Service supplied equipment that can be loaned or transferred to industry under individual contract agreements
What is the 1st level of ASE Maintenance?
1st Level (AKA forward)
- Repairable Stn/Ship/Unit
- Directly concerned with preparing Cat 1, 2 and electrical equipment
- Can be carried out by the user if detailed in the maintenance schedule
- Can be carried out by the ASE section if circumstances require
What does 1st level maintenance tasks include?
- EIUS
- Functional checks
- Specified periodic safety checks
- Pre-use and post-use examinations, inspections
What is second level maintenance?
- On Cat 1, 2 and electrical equipment which is temporarily U/S or requires preventative maintenance
- Can be responsible for 3rd level maintenance if authorised
- Supports 1st level maintenance
What does 2nd level maintenance tasks include?
(Only applicable to equipment with periodic maintenance)
- Component Maintenance (Maintenance of major components)
- Maritime Maintenance
- Acceptance checks
- Before use and After use examinations
- EIUS
- After use servicing
- Temporary storage at unit
What is 3rd level maintenance?
- Repair
- Partial reconditioning
- Modification of equipment
What are 3rd level maintenance tasks?
Identified by supply chain repair terminology R3 on MOD Form 731
What s 4th level maintenance?
- Full reconditioning
- Major Conversion
- Modernisation
- Repairs involving work of this nature
- Identified by R4 on 731
