Non-pharmacological treatment of ASD?

A

Aim to lessen associated deficits and family distress, and to increase quality of life and functional independence

Family and school based

Applied behaviour analysis, speech and language therapy, social skills training all have some limited success.

There is no non-medication intervention that treats the core symptoms of Autism.

Pharmacological treatment of ASD?

A

Risperidone - good for tantrums, aggression, self-injury
Methylphenidate - for ADHD symptoms (often other comorbidities)
Melatonin - good for sleep
