ASCO studies part 1 Flashcards
all directly related to risk of recurrence in breast cancer.
Tumor size, involvement of axillary lymph nodes, and high nuclear and histologic grade are all directly related to risk of recurrence.
The number of involved axillary lymph nodes provides a semiquantitative assessment of risk of recurrence and death from breast cancer.
The expression of ER or PR by the tumor is a short-term favorable prognostic factor. Recurrent disease tends to develop more slowly during the first 4 to 5 years for patients with ER-positive or PR-positive tumors. Although several genomic-based assays provide independent prognostic information for both high and low risk patients, none of the individual markers listed (cathepsin D, bcl-2, and p53) are of known value.
