participants were given two large white cards at a time

one one card was a standard line and on the other paper there was 3 comparison lines.

one of the 3 lines were the same length as the standard line.

P’s asked which of the 3 lines matched the standard line

each naive participant was tested with a group of confederates. Confederates start to give right then wrong answers
