Who should conduct a prelim interview?
A
An ASA investigator.If not available a supervisor must task the most suitable police officer to conduct the interview and record why this decision was made in the NIA review node.

What is the procedure for conducting a prelim interview?
A
- Ensure the victim is safe and the interview environment is comfortable and private. (if conducted at police station room must not be used by suspect/offender)
Also ensure all initial contact actions have been undertaken.
2.Ensure specialist support has been offered/arranged.
3. Use open TEDS questions to establish What has happened When did it happen Where did it take place Who is the offender making sure not to contaminate the victims recall
- Record all info obtained in your notebook
- Do not conduct a formal interview unless asked to by a supervisor.

What steps should be taken after the prelim interview?
A
- Re-assess the investigation considering what further investigation precedures are necessary including:
- public safety
- need to secure and preserve fragile evidence
- secure/contain crime scene
- ID/locate witnesses
- ID/apprehension of suspect considering whether to talk to the suspect or delay speaking with them - Consider if recent photo of victim is necessary for comparison purposes
- If the victims clothing is required then ensure suitable clothing is available for the victim
- Ensure victim is advised of specialist support services
