When does the most disclosure happen?
Intimate disclosures are most shared with either a complete stranger of a trusted companion within a dyadic boundary. (dyadic = trusted two-person relationship)
When does the least self-disclosure happen?
The least self-disclosure happens between acquintances who do not know each other well but anticipate future interaction, and in the presence of uninvolved third parties due to increased vulnerability.
5 categories of disclosure goals
- Social validation, by increasing social approval and liking
- Self-expression, venting out negative emotions and disclosing problems.
- Relational development, increase intimacy and closeness
- Identity clarification, information about one’s identity and position for itself and others
- Social control, sharing information about self to control social outcomes
