define articulatory phonetics
Branch of phonetics which deals with the articulation, that is how speech sounds are produced
speech organs
Various organs in our body help us to speak, apart from their biological and physiological functions.
Speech mechanism
The speech organs are divided into 3 groups, and each group form a system. The mechanism in which these 3 speech groups function to produce speech sound is called the Speech mechanism
What is Speech?
Speech is modified breathing. The air we intake is regulated by speech organs to produce speech sound and hence modified breathing.
Organs of Speech - the 3 groups
Respiratory System, Phonatory System, Articulatory System
Respiratory System
Function - Air from the lung is pushed out through the windpipe
Organs - Right and Left lung, Right and Left Bronchus, Windpipe or trachea, Chest muscles
Phonatory System
Consists of Larynx - Part right above the windpipe
Articulatory System
Located in our head - oral cavity, nasal cavity, and the Pharynx
