Articulating Surfaces Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the acetabulum
A
- Hemi-spherical fossa facing lat/ant/inf
- Formed by fusion of ischium/pubis/ilium
- Contains horse-shoe shaped lunate articular surface
- Covered in Hyaline cartilage (thickest superiorly)
- Central section = non-articular - ligamentum teres
- Rim = incomplete inferiorly (notch) transverse ligament
- Deepened by fibrocartilaginous labrum - deepens fossa - also defective in inferior aspect.
2
Q
Describe the Head of femur
A
- Ball/spherical shaped head
- Carried on oblique femoral neck = ~125 degrees
- Facing post/med/sup
- Covered in hyaline cartilage - thickest superiorly (except for fovea capitis which is posteromedial attachment site for ligamentum teres)
