arthrology Flashcards
classification by movement
Synarthroses
Amphiarthroses
Diarthroses
classification by tissue type
Fibrous
Cartilaginous
Synovial
synarthroses
little to no movement such as cranial sutures. mostly fibrous.
amphiarthroses
slight movement. examples include syndesmoses, symphyses. mostly cartilaginous.
diarthroses
highly moveable and synovial.
fibrous joint
little to no movement such as gomphoses, sutures, and syndesmoses
cartilaginous joint
some movement, such as synchondrosis or symphses
synovial joint
highly moveable
synchondosis
cartilaginous joint. bone to hyaline cartilage to bone. examples include epiphyseal growth plate
symphyses
cartilaginous joint. bone to hyaline cartilage to fibrocartilage disc to hyaline cartilage to bone. occur along axillary skeleton and function in stability @ weight bearing joints
sellar joint
saddle joint. multiaxial, two concave/convex articulating surfaces such as thumb joint
plane joint
facet joints. translators motion across flat joint surfaces in apposition such as zygapophyseal joints.
ginglymus joint
hinge joint. uniaxial, one degree of freedom of motion like the elbow
bicondyloid joint
mostly uniaxial with some rotation, two convex condyles articulate with two concave joints such as femoral condyles and tibial plateau
ellipsoid joint
condyloid joint. biaxial, oval convex articulate with oval concave such as distal radius with scaphoid and lunate
