Clinical presentation of osteoarthritis? (5)
A
Symptoms
- joint pain
- stiffness worse after activity and end of day
- activity induced swelling
Signs
- reduced ROM due to pain
- tender over joint lines
- crepitus on movement

!! Diagnosis osteoarthritis? (3)
A
All of the following:
- 45 years or older
- activity related jt pain
- no morning related jt stiff OR morning stiffness <30min

Treatment osteoarthritis?
A
First line = conservative:
- advice, exercise muscle strength and cardio, weight loss
- analgesia, NSAIDS first line.
- intra-articular steroid injection for Acute pain
Conservative fail = Surgical
- if severe pain or disability
- arthroplasty (jt replacement) or arthrodesis (fusion jt)
