Arteries, veins and lymphatics of the heart Flashcards
What main arteries supply the heart wall?
Right and left coronary arteries
What veins drains the heart wall and where does it drain into?
Cardiac veins drain into coronary sinus
Where/what is the coronary sinus?
Feeds blood into right atrium from cardiac veins
What are the main grooves in the heart wall?
Atrioventricular (coronary) suclcus
Interventricular sucli
Where does the atrioventricular sulcus lie?
Encircles the heart between the atria and ventricles
Where do the interventricular grooves lie?
Between two ventricles
What are the two interventricular grooves?
Anterior and posterior
What does the left coronary artery split into?
Circumflex branch
Anterior interventricular branch
What are the main branches of the right coronary artery?
Marginal artery
Posterior interventricular artery
Which artery does the posterior interventricular artery anastomose with?
Anterior interventricular artery
Which artery does the circumflex artery anastomose with?
Right coronary artery
What does the marginal artery supply?
Lateral side of heart including right atrium and ventricle
What is meant by the term end artery?
An artery that is the only supply of oxygenated blood to a portion of tissue.
They do not anastomose with their neighbours.
What does the anterior interventricular artery supply? (2)
Interventricular septum
Anterior walls of both ventricles
What does the circumflex artery supply?
Left atrium
Posterior walls of left ventricle
