Arterial supply of the Trunk Flashcards

1
Q

how is the body wall and organs supplied by oxygenated blood?

A

the aorta, arising from the heart gives major branches to the head and neck and upper limbs.

then passes inferiorly along the posterior body wall just in front and slightly to the left of the bodies of the thoracic and Lumbar vertebrae to supply the body walls and organs.

Q

What are branches of the descending thoracic aorta?

A

Only the Posterior Intercostal Arteries are identifiable on a cadaver.

  • Not identifiable on a cadaver: (BOP)
  • Bronchial arteries
  • Oesophageal arteries
  • Pericardial arteries

Q

Describe how the abdominal aorta terminates? Where does it lie in?

A

Into common iliac arteries at vertebral level L4. And lie in the iliac fossae.
(right and left common iliac)

17
Q

Describe Where the common iliac arteries terminates and into what?

A

External iliac arteries at vertebral level L5 and become the femoral artery.

Internal iliac arteries at vertebral level L5-S1 and supply the pelvic viscera

(have both right and left
