Arterial Blood gasses Flashcards
What do ABG tell us?
- PaO2
- PaCo2
Help to identify hypoxia and hypercapnia
What can ABG diagnose?
Diagnose if the patient has type 1 or 2 respiratory failure?
What does PaCO2 Mean?
Concentration of Carbon dioxide in the blood
What does PaO2 mean?
Concentration of oxygen within the blood
What information does Blood gasses give?
pH
PaCo2
Pao2
Bicarbonate HCO3
ROME
Respiratory alka/acidosis
Opposite to PH
Metabolic
Equal to pH value
What do Venous and Arterial blood gasses tell us respectfully?
Venous - hypercapnia
Arterial - hypoxemia and hypercapnia
What are the value of ABG?
Valuable changes in health status and are taken from deteriorating patients
Information around ventilation and perfusion of the patient
What is a ABG?
Test used to determine the pH, levels of CO2 and O2 from an artery - function of moving oxygen into the blood and removing carbon dioxide
Normal Values for pH
7.35 - 7.45
Normal Values for PaO2?
75 - 100 mmHg
Normal Values for CO2
35-45 mmHg
Normal range for Bicarb (HCo3)
22-26
Normal range for oxygen saturations
92-96%
